Craig Schmeider
Board Member - Health & Well-being
I am a GP who first joined Veterans Care as a Timor Awakening participant in 2023 and now provide medical and mentoring support to programs both domestically and in Timor Leste. I am grateful for the opportunity to now join the Veterans Care Association Board in the role of Health and Wellbeing and I look forward to being able to help continue the great work that the Association has done since its inception in improving the health of Veterans.
I joined the Army Reserve as a Health Assistant and then Rifleman while studying to become an Environmental Health Officer (EHO), transferring to the Regular Army as an EHO in 1995. I had multiple deployments during service to the Indo-Pacific region including to Timor Leste with 1 Fd Hosp in 1999 with INTERFET and again in 2000 with 1 RAR under UNTAET. In 2008 I completed my Medical Training and then served in the Middle East on multiple deployments as a Medical Officer. I transitioned back to the Army Reserve in 2016 and have held Senior Medical Officer and Command appointments during that time.
In my civilian practice I works as a GP in Brisbane where a large proportion of my practice is dedicated to the care of Veterans. Married with four children, my family is my passion. I am a Reds Rugby tragic, (there’s always next year) and I enjoy travel.
