My name’s Richard Mann—though most know me as Rick, Ricky, or “Champion” - which sticks the most. Born in Brisbane, I’ve spent my life in Queensland, starting work at 16, bouncing through a few jobs such as a brickie’s labourer and door-to-door salesman, before becoming a Master Butcher in 1986. A year later, following a childhood dream, I joined the Army on a three‑year contract that turned into 27 years of service across multiple units.

I’m a proud dad of two sons and Pa to three grandkids, all close by—family that keeps me grounded. Outdoors is where I feel most at home, whether by the water or out on the land.

In 2016, my mate Gary Stone convinced me to join a trip to Timor‑Leste. That decision changed everything. Since then, being part of the VCA/TA team has been a privilege, with camaraderie and community at its heart.

At the end of the day, I’m just a good bloke—and if you don’t believe me, ask me.

Ubique, Obrigado barak
